The Digital Innovation Environment powered by OMiLAB contains a model-based approach and an environment to create experiments to analyse and evaluate innovative ideas. The goal of the innovative idea is defined in concrete scenarios, which are used as one input for the experiments. The other input is the abstraction of the environment, where the idea should be implemented, for example in the context of FAIRWork, this would be a production environment. For this environment a prototype must be created to evaluate the ideas.

These two inputs are then represented with conceptual models, and in addition models are used to define the logic how the scenario can be executed within the environment. The used modelling methods for creating the models, are established to fit to the idea’s domain and the used modelling tools are connected to the prototype environment, allowing the utilization of the created models, making them a core artefact in defining testing the innovative idea.

OMiLAB uses these experiments to document, evaluate and sustain innovative ideas as experiments. These experiments will be shared with the OMiLAB community of practice. Such experiments follow OMiLAB’s Digital Innovation Environment and utilize model-based approaches. For creating modelling tools for the experiments, OMiLAB uses the open-source ADOxx metamodeling platform.

Information

In FAIRWork we created an early experiment to use the knowledge encapsulated in conceptual models to instantiate rule-based decision services. This experiment uses Olive to provide the abstract decision service that can be instantiated and the Bee-Up tool as modelling environment.
